What is GO_HorseData?

This project will develop an intelligent monitoring system based on RFID transponders attached to horses to record and analyse movements related to the handling of groups of animals and to optimise equine breeding and processing processes , offering a real-time alert system for farmers.

Likewise, GO_HorseData will promote the sustainability and economic viability of some extensive equine farms that would otherwise be destined to disappear as they cannot afford investments due to a lack of data and  predictability of livestock production.

It will also promote the implementation of improvements in management techniques , which will indirectly lead to the optimization of the performance of the equine sector and will generate multidisciplinary work environments by promoting the rapprochement between technological knowledge and the agricultural management of equines in semi-freedom.

Finally, GO_HorseData will implement statistical management of the data set to offer competitive advantages to the equine sector value chain.

This project responds to four major challenges that the equestrian sector currently faces:

1. Increase the productivity of equine farms geared towards their different exploitation uses

3. Ensure the well-being of the specimens

2. Need to create a solid and precision industry around the horse

4. Facilitate decision-making and support marketing

Goals

The general objective of the project is  to design an innovative integrated horse monitoring control program for the optimization of breeding and transformation processes in extensive livestock farms.

To achieve this objective, a series of partial objectives must be achieved, so that the sum of the results obtained in this process allows us to successfully reach the final result.

This project will have the following specific objectives:

Definición de los agentes que interfieren en la crianza y transformación que requiere la cría de ganado caballar

The objectives of an ideal or optimized upbringing will be defined, and the agents that interfere by diminishing or distorting a normal development pattern will be identified.

Monitoring of specimens to meet identified needs

A monitoring system based on RFID technologies will be developed. First, it will be necessary to identify the points of interest where the reading arches should be placed. Then, the design of the reading arches and RFID sensors will be carried out according to the identified needs.

Intuitive real-time monitoring platform

After agreeing on the format of the data generated by the arches, a suitable and easily scalable cloud storage system will be designed and deployed. This database will store the entire history of data generated by the passage of specimens through the arches, as well as the static information related to the deployment carried out.

Decision support

To maximize the usefulness of the available data, extract valuable insights, and leverage them to support the management and utilization of the specimens, multiple algorithms based on statistical analysis and machine learning will be developed. These algorithms will analyze the collected data to address the previously identified needs.

Creating the investment/added value curve that training represents

The receivers will be installed on the specimens for transformation, and after the necessary tests, we will verify the feasibility and safety of the device, the absence of interference in the transformation, and the accurate attribution of the number of processing hours.

Diagnosis of the ideal scenario for training

Based on the solid knowledge of the GO partners and the technicians working at the stud farm, an ideal, streamlined, and transferable scenario will be developed for other farms and regions. This will enable productive handling, free from elements that could interfere with or influence the process.

Improving digital skills

A training platform based on the Moodle tool will be developed to address the widespread lack of knowledge among end users regarding the solutions developed within this project and, more broadly, about new technologies.
